The Sentencing Academy is a UK-based charity established in 2019 focused on promoting evidence-based sentencing practices and improving public understanding of sentencing within England and Wales.
The organization works to advance informed discussion, research, and policy development related to sentencing, criminal justice outcomes, reducing re-offending, supporting victims, and strengthening public confidence in the justice system.
The Chief Executive Officer will lead the strategic direction, operational development, and long-term sustainability of the organization during its next phase of growth.
This role combines executive leadership, strategic planning, governance oversight, fundraising, stakeholder engagement, and operational management within a mission-driven nonprofit environment.
The CEO will work closely with the Board, partners, funders, and external stakeholders to strengthen organizational influence, broaden funding sources, and support the charity’s long-term impact across the criminal justice sector.
Lead execution of the organization’s long-term strategic plan.
Drive organizational sustainability and future growth initiatives.
Oversee operational management, governance, and compliance activities.
Strengthen the organization’s funding base through grants, partnerships, and fundraising initiatives.
Manage financial health, budgeting, and resource planning.
Build and maintain relationships with stakeholders, policymakers, partners, funders, and sector organizations.
Represent the organization in public forums, media engagements, and external events.
Lead and support a diverse team within a collaborative and mission-focused environment.
Support evidence-based advocacy and public engagement related to sentencing practices and criminal justice reform.
Senior leadership experience within the nonprofit, charity, public policy, or related sectors.
Strong background in strategic planning, governance, and financial management.
Experience securing funding through grants, partnerships, or philanthropic initiatives.
Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and public representation skills.
Interest in sentencing policy, criminal justice, or related public policy areas.
Ability to lead organizational growth while balancing operational and strategic priorities.
Strong analytical thinking, decision-making, and problem-solving capabilities.
Collaborative leadership style with experience managing remote or hybrid teams.
Permanent part-time role.
0.5 to 0.8 FTE (18.75 to 30 hours per week).
Remote organization with regular meetings required in London.
Salary: £70,000 pro rata.
