The Field Medical Director for Vascular Surgery is a key member of the utilization management team.
This role provides clinical expertise in a non-clinical environment, supporting medical necessity reviews, appeals, and utilization decisions to improve patient outcomes and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
The position offers an opportunity to contribute to healthcare quality while maintaining work-life balance within a collaborative team.
Serve as a specialty reviewer for vascular cases that do not initially meet medical necessity guidelines, as well as additional imaging requests requiring expert review.
Conduct peer-to-peer discussions with requesting physicians within required regulatory timeframes.
Provide clinical rationale for both standard and expedited appeals.
Apply medical review guidelines to ensure consistent, compliant utilization decisions aligned with internal policies and industry standards.
Support and act as a resource for initial clinical reviewers.
Ensure accurate and timely documentation of all communications with providers and medical staff.
Participate in ongoing training and inter-rater reliability processes.
Assist senior leadership with research and interpretation related to utilization management processes and guidelines.
Serve as Medical Director for specific health plans or regions when required, with accountability for utilization management outcomes.
MD, DO, or MBBS required.
Active and unrestricted medical license required, with ability to obtain additional licenses as needed.
Board certification in Vascular Surgery or General Surgery with significant vascular experience required.
Preferred minimum of five years of experience practicing as a vascular surgeon.
Strong clinical, management, communication, and organizational skills.
Proficiency with computer systems.
Passion for improving quality and value in healthcare.
Reliable high-speed internet connection of at least 10 Mbps.
Ability to connect directly to a home internet router if required for the role.
Expected compensation range of $140 to $160 per hour, depending on experience.
