
Deputy Director of the Child Protection Alliance, Global

Assignment Length: Through March 31, 2027
Schedule: Part-time, 32 hours per week

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is an international humanitarian organization operating in more than 40 countries and 29 U.S. cities.
The Child Protection Alliance is a global inter-agency network of more than 370 organizations focused on protecting children from abuse, neglect, exploitation, and violence in humanitarian settings.
The Alliance serves as a leading platform for child protection standards, technical guidance, learning, and advocacy.
The Deputy Director will provide strategic and operational leadership in support of the Alliance Director.
The role focuses on governance, technical quality, partnerships, multisector collaboration, and organizational alignment across the Alliance and IRC’s child protection objectives.
The position also supports operational coordination, technical oversight, fundraising, and external engagement activities.
Support development and implementation of Alliance strategy and workplans
Lead designated strategic workstreams
Strengthen alignment between Alliance priorities and IRC initiatives
Support Executive Committee and Steering Committee governance activities
Coordinate working groups, initiatives, and task forces
Support collaboration and information-sharing across Alliance members
Lead planning and delivery of the Annual Meeting for Child Protection in Humanitarian Action
Support internal governance, planning, and fundraising activities
Assist with day-to-day oversight of the Alliance Secretariat
Provide oversight to technical working groups and initiatives
Support identification of sector-wide technical priorities and gaps
Oversee review and approval processes for technical and advocacy outputs
Promote inclusion of local and national member perspectives
Build and maintain partnerships with UN agencies, NGOs, donors, academic institutions, and private-sector stakeholders
Support global and regional advocacy initiatives
Assist with communications and engagement strategies
Leverage strategic partnerships to strengthen child protection priorities
Support research and learning agendas
Promote dissemination and implementation of guidance and evidence
Share learning across IRC and Alliance networks
Support fundraising initiatives aligned with Alliance priorities
Coordinate financial and operational collaboration with partners and co-hosts
Minimum 10 years of professional experience
At least 5 years in senior management or deputy leadership roles
Experience within international organizations, alliances, coalitions, or networks strongly preferred
Demonstrated experience supporting executive leadership and governance structures
Strong partnership-building and stakeholder management skills
Experience operating in politically sensitive or complex environments
Commitment to equity, inclusion, and humanitarian values
Strong communication and stakeholder engagement abilities
Strong organizational and time management skills
Ability to synthesize complex information clearly
Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
Experience working within matrixed global organizations
Ability to motivate and coordinate volunteers and partners
Adaptability and proactive leadership approach
Master’s degree in Social Sciences, Child Rights, Development Studies, Social Work, or a related field required
Excellent written and spoken English required
Additional proficiency in Arabic, French, or Spanish preferred
Remote position open to candidates who are nationals or permanent residents of the UK or Kenya
Standard office working environment
Up to 20% international travel may be required
UK salary range: £58,736 – £68,256
Compensation may vary based on labor market, location, experience, and internal equity considerations
