Diablo Firesafe Council (DFSC) is a nonprofit organization serving Alameda and Contra Costa Counties in California.

Executive Director
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will oversee DFSC’s operations, programs, fundraising efforts, grant administration, and long-term organizational growth.
The Executive Director will provide strategic and operational leadership while helping position DFSC as a trusted source of wildfire prevention knowledge and community engagement.

Potential opportunity to transition into a full-time salaried role subject to future funding
Manage active grants, including reporting, invoicing, deliverables, and stakeholder meetings
Provide oversight of organizational programs and initiatives
Support Board operations, including board meetings, governance activities, and board recruitment
Facilitate Executive Committee and staff meetings
Lead grant writing and grant management activities
Develop and execute fundraising initiatives
Build relationships with government agencies, nonprofit organizations, and community stakeholders
Conduct outreach and partnership development activities
Represent the organization through public engagement and stakeholder communications
Experience in wildfire prevention, planning, vegetation management, or related fields
Knowledge of wildfire safety principles, defensible space practices, fire-safe landscaping, and home hardening strategies
Experience managing nonprofit organizations, programs, policies, and procedures
Demonstrated success working with Boards of Directors
Ability to assess organizational, administrative, and budgetary challenges and implement solutions
Experience preparing grant applications, invoices, progress reports, budgets, and expense reports
Strong grant administration and compliance capabilities
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Experience working with government agencies and diverse stakeholder groups
Public relations experience, including reputation management and strategic communications
Ability to prepare professional communications and press releases
Comfortable speaking at community meetings and public events
Experience planning and managing projects, programs, and events
Proficiency with Google Workspace, including Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, and Drive
Proficiency using Zoom and virtual meeting tools
Strong organizational skills with the ability to work independently
Experience developing partnerships with mission-aligned organizations
