The Role

The System Director, Facilities, Security & Asset Management will provide enterprise oversight across Environment of Care, Safety, Emergency Management, Regulatory Compliance, Facilities Operations, Asset Lifecycle Management, Recall Management and Facilities Vendor Governance.

The role serves as the primary leadership contact for Emerus' facilities management partners and is responsible for maintaining compliance with DNV, CMS, OSHA, NFPA and internal standards while supporting asset reliability, capital planning and operational excellence across Emerus facilities.

Key Responsibilities

Safety & Environment of Care

  • Promote a culture of safety across the organisation.
  • Establish clear expectations for identifying and addressing incidents that may impact safety.
  • Develop and oversee a comprehensive safety improvement programme, including analysis and trending of safety data.
  • Conduct Safety Officer education and training.
  • Maintain physical environment plans, policies and procedures covering Safety, Security, Emergency Management, Hazardous Materials and BioMed.
  • Complete annual physical environment evaluations and hazard vulnerability assessments.
  • Complete annual HVA, SVA, Environment of Care and Life Safety evaluations, and contribute to Ligature Risk Assessments for CMS and DNV review.
  • Support regulatory compliance for new market development in accordance with NFPA, OSHA, CMS and DNV requirements.
  • Support state regulatory inspections related to biohazard and medical waste licensing.
  • Lead emergency preparedness planning, including disaster drills, decontamination and all-hazard planning activities.
  • Conduct quarterly safety audits as required by deeming requirements.
  • Co-chair the Safety programme and provide updates to market CEOs and the Quality Management System.
  • Ensure compliance with DNV-GL, OSHA, NFPA and CMS Physical Environment of Care standards.
  • Ensure facilities vendors complete required annual reviews and Periodic Performance Reviews (PPR).
  • Provide consultation regarding facility quality control and compliance with local, state and federal regulations.
  • Review Environment of Care data and identify opportunities for regional improvement.
  • Participate in hospital committees and support emergency preparedness and other departmental initiatives.
  • Participate in performance improvement and information management activities.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary safety tours of clinical and non-clinical areas during new construction.
  • Assist with enforcement of interim life safety plans and coordinate infection-control risk assessments.

Facilities Management & Vendor Oversight

  • Serve as the primary system liaison for the JLL Integrated Facilities Management partnership.
  • Ensure contractual obligations, service levels, KPIs and audit requirements are achieved.
  • Conduct routine performance reviews with JLL and monitor corrective action plans.
  • Review monthly operational, compliance, risk, financial and vendor-performance reports.
  • Ensure facility maintenance activities meet contractual service levels and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead system facility audits and validate vendor, DNV, CMS and internal-policy compliance.
  • Oversee facility vendor categories including shredding, biomedical waste, solid waste and recycling, pest control and other facility support services.
  • Manage vendor performance, contract compliance, service levels, issue resolution and renewals.
  • Partner with Supply Chain, Operations and Finance to identify cost-saving opportunities and standardise contracted services.
  • Develop and monitor vendor performance metrics and implement corrective action plans as needed.

Equipment Maintenance & Asset Management

  • Manage enterprise equipment maintenance service agreements.
  • Ensure preventive maintenance programmes are executed effectively.
  • Oversee equipment service providers, performance metrics, contract renewals and associated budgets.
  • Obtain and review manufacturer end-of-life reports and replacement recommendations.
  • Evaluate asset condition, reliability, utilisation and maintenance history to support capital replacement planning.

Recall Management

  • Monitor regulatory agencies, manufacturers and industry alerts for equipment recalls, hazard notifications and field correction notices.
  • Maintain Recall Management software and ensure Emerus points of contact are current.
  • Run reports on open recall alerts and distribute them to market leaders for resolution.
  • Coordinate with Supply Chain, Clinical Engineering, Operations, Risk Management and facility leadership on recalled equipment.
  • Maintain education for market and department leaders on recall documentation, reporting and corrective actions.
  • Report recall programme metrics and compliance performance to executive leadership and regulatory bodies as required.

Leadership & Additional Responsibilities

  • Maintain a high degree of responsibility and accountability.
  • Attend staff meetings and other required company meetings.
  • Travel to facility locations as required.
  • Work off-hours and participate in on-call responsibilities when required.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • 5 years of General Safety or Environment of Care experience may substitute for education.
  • Hospital experience required.
  • 3 years of management-level experience dedicated to General Safety or Environment of Care programmes required.
  • Experience supervising Safety Management personnel and overseeing contracted facility management partners, consultants and vendors.
  • Experience with performance management, employee development, work prioritisation and goal setting.
  • Knowledge of hospital Infection Prevention & Control systems and standards.
  • Knowledge of state and federal requirements, including OSHA guidelines and NFPA codes.
  • Strong change-management capabilities.
  • Superior interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Strong organisational and task-management abilities.
  • Experience with root cause analysis, cause-and-effect analysis and corrective or preventive action planning.
  • Proven team-building skills with clinical and operations teams, including medical staff.
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships.
  • Strong oral, written and electronic communication skills.
  • Demonstrated analytical and critical-thinking abilities.
  • Proactive decision-making and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
