About Camp Dream
Camp Dream provides life-changing experiences for children and young adults with moderate to severe physical and developmental disabilities, including its signature 1:1 overnight Summer Camp programme.
The Program Director will provide overall leadership and management of Camp Dream's programmes, strengthening existing initiatives while helping build the infrastructure needed for future growth.
The Role
Reporting directly to the Executive Director, the Program Director will lead programme development, volunteer recruitment and retention, and Summer Camp planning and execution.
The role is highly hands-on, requiring someone who can build relationships, create systems, recruit and engage volunteers, solve problems and turn ideas into effective programmes.
Key Responsibilities
Program Leadership
- Learn and assess Camp Dream's existing programmes and processes.
- Identify opportunities for improvement and develop recommendations with the Program Committee.
- Lead implementation of approved programme changes.
- Chair the Program Committee and keep its work organised, focused and moving forward.
Volunteer Recruitment & Engagement
- Develop and execute a year-round volunteer recruitment and retention strategy.
- Build partnerships with community organisations and other potential volunteer sources.
- Create repeatable systems that produce a dependable and growing volunteer base.
- Develop relationships and outreach strategies that convert into an active volunteer community.
Summer Camp Oversight
- Oversee Summer Camp planning and execution.
- Serve as Summer Camp Director unless a qualified volunteer Camp Director is recruited.
- Manage camper and staff applications.
- Lead counselor recruitment and training.
- Manage camper-counselor pairing and scheduling.
- Coordinate meal planning, lodging assignments and vendors.
- Lead camp staff and coordinators.
- Handle real-time problem-solving.
- Ensure the safety and integrity of the programme.
Program Development & Growth
- Build infrastructure to sustain, scale and expand Camp Dream programming.
- Support the potential return of Camp Out programmes.
- Develop new opportunities to serve campers and their families.
- Track key programme and volunteer metrics.
- Use performance data to identify opportunities and guide future planning.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated success recruiting, engaging and retaining volunteers is highly preferred.
- Strong relationship-building and community outreach skills.
- Ability to develop effective recruitment strategies and build dependable volunteer communities.
- Comparable experience recruiting staff, participants or community members for mission-driven programmes may be considered.
- Experience in medical care, teaching, special education, camp leadership, nonprofit programming, volunteer management or a related field is strongly preferred.
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities is highly valued.
- Strong organisational, problem-solving and programme management skills.
- Hands-on leadership approach with the ability to create systems and execute initiatives.
Location & Summer Camp Commitment
The role will require an approximately 10-day on-site commitment in Hampton, Georgia during Summer Camp.
The ideal candidate will live in or near the Atlanta area and be available for occasional in-person meetings, volunteer recruitment, community outreach and other opportunities to represent Camp Dream.
Position Structure
This is intended to be a long-term, year-round position. Workload will vary throughout the year and increase significantly in the months leading up to Summer Camp.
The mission of the role is to recruit more volunteers, serve more campers and build stronger programmes.
Compensation
Compensation will be based on experience, qualifications, expected time commitment, and the final structure and scope of the position.
