This opportunity is with one of its healthcare clients seeking interim executive accounting leadership within a Medicare Advantage and managed care environment.
The Role
The Interim Director of Accounting will lead accounting operations and financial reporting related to revenue and medical costs for a growing healthcare organization. The role partners closely with cross-functional leadership to ensure accurate financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence while supporting strategic business initiatives.
This executive will oversee the accounting team, manage financial close processes, support audits and regulatory reporting, and drive continuous process improvements across the finance organization.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Financial Management
- Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
- Oversee accounting operations related to revenue and medical costs.
- Manage and develop a team of accounting professionals.
- Drive process improvement initiatives across the accounting function.
Financial Reporting & Compliance
- Oversee preparation of financial statements and management reporting packages.
- Ensure accuracy of journal entries, account reconciliations, variance analyses, and supporting documentation.
- Lead statutory and regulatory financial reporting efforts.
- Support audits, regulatory examinations, and compliance initiatives.
Revenue & Medical Cost Accounting
- Oversee accounting for Medicare and Medicaid premiums.
- Manage accounting for member premiums, medical claims, IBNR reserves, provider capitation, risk-sharing settlements, incentives, pharmacy expenses, and other medical costs.
- Ensure accurate financial reporting in accordance with GAAP and regulatory requirements.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with FP&A on budgeting, forecasting, and financial performance analysis.
- Collaborate with Operations, Claims, Pharmacy, Contracting, Compliance, and Actuarial teams to support strategic initiatives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
- Active CPA certification.
- 10+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
- 5+ years of health plan, managed care, or health insurance accounting experience.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, account reconciliations, and regulatory compliance.
- Demonstrated leadership experience managing accounting operations and financial reporting.
