The Role
The Herring Group is seeking a Financial Leadership Partner to serve as an outsourced CFO for a portfolio of small and mid-sized businesses.
This executive consulting role combines strategic financial leadership with hands-on client advisory work, helping business owners improve profitability, strengthen financial operations, optimize cash flow, and make data-driven business decisions.
The successful candidate will manage multiple client engagements while partnering directly with executive teams to deliver measurable financial outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Leadership
- Serve as the outsourced CFO for a portfolio of SMB clients.
- Lead financial planning, forecasting, budgeting, and performance management.
- Develop financial models, dashboards, and executive reporting.
- Translate financial data into strategic business recommendations.
Business Advisory
- Partner directly with business owners and leadership teams.
- Identify opportunities to improve profitability and expand operating margins.
- Advise clients on pricing strategies, labor efficiency, and financial performance.
- Support long-term financial planning and business growth initiatives.
Financial Analysis & Performance
- Build and maintain forecasting models and key performance indicators.
- Monitor cash flow, profitability, and overall business health.
- Deliver actionable financial insights that improve executive decision-making.
- Drive continuous improvement across financial reporting and analytics.
Client Success
- Manage multiple consulting engagements simultaneously.
- Build trusted advisor relationships with business owners.
- Contribute to the ongoing refinement of The Herring Group's consulting methodologies and financial tools.
- Deliver measurable improvements across client organizations.
Qualifications
Required Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field (MBA preferred).
- Minimum of 10 years of financial leadership experience.
- Experience serving as a CFO, Controller, FP&A Director, Principal Consultant, or Business Owner.
- Hands-on experience supporting small to mid-sized businesses.
- Proven success improving profitability, cash flow, and financial performance.
- Advanced expertise in financial modeling, forecasting, dashboards, and business analytics.
- Excellent executive communication and client relationship management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple client engagements within a consulting environment.
- Must reside in Texas or Georgia.
Preferred Experience
- Previous entrepreneurial or business ownership experience.
- Experience working with companies generating $3M–$100M+ in annual revenue.
- Consulting experience serving multiple executive clients.
