About Owl Therapy

At Owl Therapy, the mission is to transform how mental health care is delivered by making it accessible, adaptive, and deeply human. The organization recognizes that mental and emotional health can change day by day, which is why it provides highly trained and certified care teams capable of delivering personalized care to each individual. Owl Therapy is committed to supporting whole person health and helping individuals live healthier and more fulfilling lives.

Owl Therapy operates as a virtual first mental health company designed to bridge the gap between primary care, psychiatry, and behavioral health services. The organization uses technology, data, and human centered design to create a more collaborative and effective mental health care experience for both patients and clinicians.

Backed by the Healthcare Shares Venture Studio, Owl Therapy is part of a growing portfolio of startups focused on restoring joy to clinicians and improving access to high quality and affordable care. The company combines clinical excellence, digital health innovation, and compassionate care to improve outcomes while integrating lifestyle medicine to support long term mental wellness.

The Opportunity

Owl Therapy is seeking a Fractional Chief Medical Officer who is excited to help build the company from the ground up.

This role is intended for a physician or senior clinical leader who believes in the long term potential of Owl Therapy, is comfortable contributing time, expertise, and capital during an early stage of development, and wants meaningful ownership and influence in shaping a path toward a future full time Chief Medical Officer role.

The position is equity focused and aligned with the interests of founders and early investors.

Role Overview

As Owl Therapy’s Fractional Chief Medical Officer, the successful candidate will partner closely with the founding team to establish clinical credibility, governance, and strategic direction.

The role involves providing clinical leadership in designing an integrative care model that emphasizes strong referral pathways, accessibility, affordability, and high quality mental health care delivery. The CMO will help ensure Owl Therapy launches and scales with a commitment to exceptional client care, clinical integrity, and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Operations and Strategy

The Fractional CMO will define and advise on Owl Therapy’s team based clinical model, standards of care, and quality framework. The role includes designing scope of practice guidelines, supervision structures, and clinician workflows.

The CMO will support the development of evidence based mental health care offerings and evaluate technology enhancements that may improve workflows, clinician efficiency, and patient experience.

Additional responsibilities include assisting with provider onboarding and credentialing, designing referral protocols, implementing technology driven client intake processes, and defining step up and step down care pathways both within and outside the Owl Therapy network.

Regulatory and Risk Oversight

The role includes advising on healthcare compliance, licensing requirements, and clinical risk management. The CMO will collaborate with legal and operational teams to ensure HIPAA compliant and ethical operations.

The position also requires identifying potential clinical, regulatory, or reputational risks and supporting the implementation of mitigation strategies. Oversight of billing and coding policies will ensure accurate documentation and proper compliance standards.

Leadership and Collaboration

The Fractional CMO will serve as a trusted advisor to the CEO and founding team, contributing to key strategic decisions that influence clinical care delivery and company growth.

The role also includes helping recruit and mentor future clinical leaders and advisors as Owl Therapy expands.

Operations and Strategic Initiatives

The CMO will contribute to the development of clinician compensation structures, provider friendly workflows, and a supportive company culture that prioritizes provider well being.

The role will also support revenue strategy and service expansion initiatives while balancing regulatory requirements and health outcome objectives. Guidance may also be provided on AI or technology initiatives, including build, partner, or buy decisions.

External Credibility and Trust Building

The Fractional CMO will help establish professional credibility for Owl Therapy with investors, healthcare partners, and clinicians.

The role includes supporting responsible brand positioning while avoiding misleading claims, championing the Owl Therapy mission within professional communities, and facilitating introductions to healthcare systems, payer networks, clinics, and referral partners.

The CMO may also serve as a clinical voice representing the organization’s values and care philosophy.

Time Commitment

The expected commitment is approximately 10 hours per week or 40 hours per month focused on administrative and clinical oversight responsibilities.

There is also a preference for candidates who may integrate direct patient facing or clinical team collaboration work into future workflows for approximately five hours per week as the organization grows.

Compensation Structure

Compensation is primarily equity based, reflecting the early stage nature of Owl Therapy and the long term value created through founding level contributions.

Any cash compensation offered will be modest, market aware, and secondary to equity alignment.

Ideal Background

Candidates should hold an MD, DO, or equivalent medical degree with board certification in psychiatry, internal medicine, family medicine, or another behavioral health related medical specialty.

Applicants should have at least seven to ten years of progressive clinical leadership experience, including direct supervisory responsibilities within behavioral health or mental health care delivery.

Experience collaborating with therapists, social workers, and non prescribing clinicians is important.

Candidates should currently hold a medical license in the state of Florida or be able to obtain licensure within 120 days.

The role may also require willingness to become licensed as an Owl Therapy provider as the company expands diagnostic and medication related services.

Experience within healthcare leadership, digital health environments, clinical operations, or early stage companies is beneficial.

Candidates should demonstrate a strong ethical foundation, collaborative mindset, and comfort operating within early stage environments.

Qualifications

Candidates must be a licensed and board certified psychiatrist or a board certified internal medicine or family physician with lifestyle medicine certification.

An active medical license in Florida is required or the ability to obtain licensure within 120 days.

Experience delivering care through telemedicine platforms is strongly preferred.

Experience advising early stage startups and collaborating with innovation teams or non clinical leaders is highly desirable.

Why Join Us

Owl Therapy offers the opportunity to participate in building a mental health telemedicine company dedicated to improving access and quality of care.

The role allows physicians to help design an innovative care delivery model alongside other clinicians, care teams, and patients.

Advisors will have the opportunity to help shape better working environments and support systems for mental health professionals while contributing to a mission driven organization focused on improving behavioral health care.

Equal Opportunity Statement

Owl Therapy is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion. The organization welcomes advisors from all backgrounds, disciplines, and perspectives and does not discriminate based on race, gender, religion, disability, or any legally protected characteristic.
