Organization Overview

SMART Recovery Global/International is an international organization focused on advancing evidence-based addiction recovery through a global network of affiliates, volunteers, recovery programs, and strategic partners.

The organization supports recovery initiatives worldwide through education, peer support, international collaboration, and evidence-based behavioral recovery approaches.

SMART Recovery Global is currently expanding its international presence and strengthening its partnerships, communications, and fundraising infrastructure.

Role Overview

The Head of Marketing, Communications & Partnerships is a fractional leadership role responsible for driving global marketing, communications, partnership development, and fundraising support initiatives.

Reporting directly to the CEO, this role combines strategic marketing leadership, digital communications management, stakeholder engagement, partnership development, brand positioning, and income-generation support responsibilities.

The position is highly execution-focused and designed to strengthen SMART Recovery Global’s international visibility, reputation, partnerships, and funding pipeline.

Key Responsibilities

Marketing & Brand Development

Lead development and execution of global marketing campaigns and brand positioning initiatives.

Strengthen SMART Recovery’s international visibility and thought leadership presence.

Develop integrated marketing and communications strategies aligned with organizational growth objectives.

Communications & Digital Engagement

Oversee:

  • Website communications
  • Social media strategy
  • Digital engagement
  • Thought leadership content
  • Media outreach

Support CEO presentations, public engagement activities, and external communications.

Use audience insights and analytics to improve digital reach, engagement, and visibility.

Partnerships & Fundraising Support

Build and manage pipelines for:

  • Trusts
  • Foundations
  • Corporate partnerships
  • International funding opportunities
  • Philanthropic relationships

Develop:

  • Funding proposals
  • Partnership pitches
  • Strategic collaboration opportunities

Support sustainable income generation and long-term partnership development.

Stakeholder & Global Network Engagement

Strengthen relationships across the international affiliate network.

Develop partnerships within:

  • Recovery organizations
  • Public health sectors
  • Research communities
  • Social impact organizations

Represent SMART Recovery Global at relevant industry events and stakeholder engagements where appropriate.

First-Year Success Metrics

Within 12 months, the role is expected to support delivery of:

  • Global marketing and communications strategy
  • Fundraising and partnership pipeline
  • 12+ media placements or thought leadership outputs
  • 50% increase in website traffic
  • 40% increase in social media reach
  • Identification of 40+ prospective funders
  • Submission of 15+ funding applications
  • Securing 3–5 grants or strategic partnerships
  • Establishment of five key international partnerships

Ideal Candidate Profile

Senior experience across:

  • Marketing
  • Communications
  • Partnerships
  • Fundraising

Demonstrated success securing:

  • Grants
  • Philanthropic funding
  • Strategic partnerships

Strong stakeholder engagement and campaign leadership experience.

Excellent storytelling, communication, and relationship-building skills.

Comfortable operating independently within remote international environments.

Collaborative, proactive, and solutions-oriented working style.

Interest in:

  • Evidence-based recovery
  • Public health
  • Social impact
  • International nonprofit initiatives

NGO, charity, or social impact sector experience preferred.

Engagement Structure & Compensation

  • Fractional contractor role
  • Approximately 8–10 days per month
  • Remote international collaboration environment
  • Compensation: £250 per day
  • Reports directly to the CEO
