This is a part-time governance role focused on providing independent oversight and strategic input into academic standards, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance.
As an External Academic Board Member, you will contribute expert guidance, review academic processes, and support continuous improvement across programmes and student experience.
Attend three Academic Board meetings annually and actively contribute to discussions.
Provide independent academic scrutiny and constructive challenge to governance processes.
Review board papers and relevant documentation in advance of meetings.
Advise on quality assurance, academic standards, and regulatory expectations.
Offer external perspectives on risk, performance, and opportunities for improvement.
Prepare an annual report outlining observations, risks, and recommendations.
Support the development of policies and initiatives that enhance academic quality and student outcomes.
Senior experience within UK higher education, including roles in academic leadership or quality assurance.
Strong understanding of academic standards, assessment processes, and student-centered learning principles.
Ability to think independently and provide constructive challenge.
Strong communication skills with the ability to produce clear and insightful reports.
Experience with international education, partnership provision, or Office for Students regulatory compliance is desirable.
Part-time role requiring approximately 6 to 8 days per year.
Includes attendance at three Academic Board meetings and preparation time.
Fixed annual fee or honorarium of £1200.
