Karat's Communications team is focused on strengthening how the market understands the company and building the channels, campaigns and executive presence that position Karat as a leader in technical interviewing and workforce intelligence.
The Role
As External Communications Lead, you will serve as the dedicated public relations and communications partner to Karat's CEO, executing an external communications strategy designed to reinforce Karat's position as an innovative leader in technical interviewing and workforce intelligence.
This is a part-time individual contributor role working closely with the CEO and experienced communications leaders. Working hours will need to be consistent and overlap with executives in the Greater Seattle Area.
Key Responsibilities
Executive Communications
- Serve as the CEO's trusted communications advisor.
- Shape communications strategy and channel decisions with company-wide impact.
- Build and manage the CEO's public platform across LinkedIn, the company blog and third-party bylines.
- Ghostwrite talking points, bylines, keynote content and other executive communications.
- Prepare the CEO for media interviews, speaking engagements and external events.
- Set the CEO's speaking strategy and identify high-value speaking opportunities.
Media & Public Relations
- Own Karat's media presence end to end.
- Secure and convert press, podcast and broadcast opportunities into coverage.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for media relationships.
- Develop campaigns that promote Karat's thought leadership, corporate milestones and product launches.
- Develop narratives that resonate with target audiences.
Agency Management
- Manage Karat's PR agency partnership.
- Hold the agency accountable to measurable outcomes rather than activity alone.
Qualifications
- 12+ years of communications experience spanning PR, media relations and executive communications.
- In-house experience at a high-growth technology or B2B company.
- Track record of securing earned media and building executive platforms for senior leaders.
- Experience ghostwriting for executives with strong editorial judgment and storytelling instincts.
- Proven ability to develop narratives and campaigns that break through with target audiences.
- Experience managing PR agency partners against measurable outcomes.
- Comfortable coaching executives for media interviews, external events and employee-facing meetings.
- Self-starting and proactive, with the ability to operate independently across multiple workstreams.
- B2B communications experience with exposure to CIO/CTO audiences and developer technologies is a plus.
Work Arrangement & Eligibility
- Fully remote position.
- Candidates must reside in one of the following U.S. states: CA, D.C., FL, GA, IL, MA, MO, NY, OR, PA, TX, VA or WA.
- Working hours must provide consistent overlap with executives in the Greater Seattle Area.
