About Finance Fight Club

Finance Fight Club provides fractional CFO services to small and mid-sized businesses, primarily those generating approximately $1M–$30M in annual revenue.

The company helps business owners make faster, more informed financial decisions through financial strategy, forecasting, cash planning, and decision support. Its approach combines strategic financial guidance with hands-on support to help clients grow revenue, protect cash flow, and improve margins.

Finance Fight Club operates as a fully remote team and emphasizes independent work, measurable goals, client collaboration, and practical financial leadership.

The Role

The Fractional CFO will serve as the primary strategic finance advisor to a portfolio of small and mid-sized business clients.

The role goes beyond financial reporting, acting as a trusted partner to business owners and leadership teams on decisions involving pricing, hiring, cash flow, growth investments, acquisitions, and financing. The CFO will build long-term client relationships while developing financial models, forecasts, and decision-support tools that help clients operate their businesses more effectively.

The position begins with a 120-day onboarding and alignment period before transitioning toward greater operational autonomy.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Strategy & Advisory

  • Advise clients on pricing, hiring, cash flow, growth investments, and financing decisions, including SBA lending.
  • Serve as a strategic finance partner to business owners and leadership teams.
  • Lead quarterly performance reviews and strategic planning conversations.
  • Represent the finance function during client Board meetings.
  • Analyze trends, margins, cash flow, and financial performance to identify risks and opportunities.
  • Translate financial information into clear, actionable recommendations.

Financial Modeling & Planning

  • Build and maintain financial models, forecasts, budgets, and decision-support tools.
  • Manage and analyze P&L and balance sheet information.
  • Identify upcoming cash obligations and financial commitments.
  • Use financial data to support strategic planning and operational decisions.
  • Identify process and modeling efficiencies that allow the firm to scale advisory quality across its client base.

Client Relationship Management

  • Manage client relationships end-to-end.
  • Establish expectations and maintain consistent communication.
  • Conduct recurring advisory meetings with clients.
  • Collaborate with client teams across functions such as Marketing, Operations, and Legal.
  • Hold business owners accountable to goals and financial priorities.
  • Communicate confidently during difficult or high-stakes business discussions.

Team Collaboration

  • Work closely with the Owner/Lead CFO during the initial onboarding and alignment period.
  • Collaborate with the broader finance team and leverage internal expertise when appropriate.
  • Transition to greater operational autonomy as trust and performance are established.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years in a full-time or fractional finance leadership/CFO role.
  • 5+ years of experience in financial consulting, M&A, or SBA lending preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in financial analysis, modeling, and business finance.
  • Experience with accounting, controllership, and/or small business finance.
  • Experience managing a P&L and balance sheet and creating budgets.
  • Strong quantitative, budgeting, and financial modeling skills.
  • Sound judgment when working with limited or incomplete data.
  • Experience supporting a small business through an acquisition or personal experience with SBA lending.
  • Experience reviewing monthly financials using Fathom, QuickBooks, or similar platforms.
  • Strong English fluency.
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance preferred, but not required.

Key Attributes

  • Confident advising and coaching high-achieving business owners and founders.
  • Strong emotional intelligence and client-management skills.
  • Genuine interest in building long-term strategic relationships with clients.
  • Curious, willing to ask questions, test ideas, and continue developing advisory skills.
  • Proactive, resourceful, and autonomous approach to work.
  • Excellent time management and prioritization.
  • Comfortable working in a lean, growing organization.
  • Proficient with emerging technology while maintaining strong human judgment and critical thinking.
  • Comfortable with platforms such as Slack and Zoom and willing to learn new productivity and FP&A tools.

Who This Role Is Not For

This role may not be suitable for candidates who:

  • Operate primarily from a corporate or large-company perspective without experience working directly with small businesses or business owners.
  • Are dismissive of small-business realities.
  • Prefer supporting one organization rather than advising multiple business owners.
  • Lack confidence in advising clients through challenging situations with imperfect information.
  • Are seeking a short-term engagement rather than a long-term team position.
  • Currently own or intend to build their own CFO consulting or fractional practice.

Compensation & Structure

Initial 120-Day Alignment Period

  • 120-day onboarding and alignment phase.
  • Designed to establish mutual fit, trust, and alignment on client strategies.
  • W-2 hourly compensation of $60–$90/hour, depending on experience.
  • Paid monthly.

Post-120 Days

  • Transition to an annual salary.
  • Greater flexibility may become available following successful completion of the alignment period.

Year 1 & Beyond

  • Additional performance-based bonus opportunities become available after 12 months.

Working Arrangement

  • Location: Fully remote within the United States.
  • Schedule: 30–35 hours per week.
  • Finance Fight Club considers 35 hours per week full-time.
  • During the first 120 days, availability is required during core collaboration hours of 9:00 AM–3:00 PM PT, Monday–Friday, for client-facing needs and onboarding.
  • After the alignment period, the schedule may become more flexible provided client needs are met.
  • The role requires consistent client-facing availability.

Benefits & Perks

Benefits become effective following successful completion of the 120-day alignment phase.

Paid Time Off

  • 15 days of flexible PTO/sick leave.
  • 9 paid standard bank holidays, excluding Christmas.
  • 10 paid days off during the annual company-wide Christmas and New Year's closure.

Remote Work

  • Fully remote work from any U.S. location.
  • Flexible working arrangements after the initial alignment period, subject to client needs.

Health & Wellness

  • Monthly health and wellness stipend that can support expenses such as gym memberships, therapy, or health insurance premiums.

Technology & Office

  • Annual stipend for home-office equipment, software, and hardware.
