About the Opportunity

A mission-driven organization is seeking a Fractional Chief Technology Officer (CTO) to provide executive leadership across technology, data, digital platforms, governance, and cybersecurity.

This engagement is designed for an experienced technology executive who can establish a sustainable technology strategy, strengthen governance frameworks, and build internal capability that enables continued progress beyond the contract period.

The successful candidate will work closely with senior leadership to ensure technology investments deliver measurable value while balancing innovation, risk management, compliance, and operational resilience.

Fractional Chief Technology Officer (CTO)

Contract Type: 12-Month Fixed-Term Contract

Location: United Kingdom

Work Arrangement: Fully Remote

Schedule: 3 Days Per Week

Role Overview

As Fractional CTO, you will provide executive leadership across technology, data, digital platforms, cloud infrastructure, cybersecurity, and governance.

The role focuses on developing and delivering a forward-looking technology roadmap while ensuring systems remain secure, resilient, compliant, and aligned with organizational priorities.

This is a strategic leadership position designed to create long-term technology capability rather than simply manage day-to-day operations.

Key Responsibilities

Technology Strategy & Architecture

Define and deliver a clear technology strategy and roadmap aligned with organizational objectives.

Responsibilities include:

  • Translating business priorities into scalable technology solutions
  • Establishing long-term technology direction
  • Guiding architecture decisions
  • Overseeing digital platforms and cloud services
  • Supporting data and technology modernization initiatives

Serve as the organization's senior technology authority for strategic technology decisions.

Governance, Risk & Compliance

Establish and maintain effective governance frameworks across technology and data operations.

Responsibilities include:

  • Cybersecurity oversight
  • Data protection and access management
  • Technology risk management
  • Compliance monitoring
  • Data governance and ownership frameworks
  • Executive reporting on technology-related risks

Ensure technology suppliers and partners meet contractual, security, and compliance obligations.

Technology Operations & Supplier Management

Provide leadership across technology operations and service delivery.

Responsibilities include:

  • Defining service standards and expectations
  • Supporting internal technology teams
  • Managing outsourced technology providers
  • Monitoring supplier performance
  • Driving operational effectiveness and cost control
  • Supporting budgeting and technology planning

Resilience & Business Continuity

Develop and maintain organizational resilience capabilities.

Responsibilities include:

  • Disaster recovery planning
  • Business continuity strategy
  • Backup and recovery processes
  • Incident response planning
  • Technology resilience improvements
  • Leadership during major operational incidents

Required Qualifications

Executive Technology Leadership

Proven experience as:

  • Chief Technology Officer (CTO)
  • Fractional CTO
  • Senior Technology Executive
  • Technology Director
  • Equivalent leadership role within a complex SME environment

Technology Expertise

Strong experience in:

  • Technology strategy
  • Enterprise architecture
  • Cloud platforms
  • Governance frameworks
  • Cybersecurity
  • Data governance
  • Vendor management

Cloud & Infrastructure

Strong expertise with:

  • Microsoft Azure

Experience managing cloud-based platforms, SaaS environments, and digital ecosystems.

Leadership & Communication

Ability to:

  • Influence executive stakeholders
  • Communicate with technical and non-technical audiences
  • Balance innovation with governance requirements
  • Drive strategic change within complex environments

Preferred Experience

Experience within:

  • Nonprofit organizations
  • Charitable organizations
  • Education sector environments
