The Role

ClassDojo is seeking an Engineering Leader, Platform to lead its Platform Engineering organization, overseeing Infrastructure, Data, Developer Experience, and AI Tooling. This is a manager-of-managers leadership role responsible for defining the platform strategy, driving architectural decisions, and enabling engineering teams to build and ship high-quality products at scale.

You'll partner closely with Product Engineering, Security, Operations, and executive leadership while developing engineering managers and shaping the future of ClassDojo's engineering platform.

Key Responsibilities

Platform Engineering Leadership

  • Lead the Platform Engineering organization across Infrastructure, Data, Developer Experience, and AI Tooling.
  • Own company-level platform objectives and develop the engineering roadmap to support business priorities.
  • Define platform engineering standards, technical direction, and long-term strategy.
  • Represent the Platform organization in cross-functional and engineering leadership discussions.

Engineering Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop Engineering Managers across multiple platform teams.
  • Establish high performance standards through coaching, feedback, and career development.
  • Drive adoption of AI-native engineering practices and modern software development methodologies.
  • Address performance challenges while fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.

Platform Strategy & Technical Excellence

  • Own architecture decisions and build-versus-buy evaluations across platform services.
  • Balance reliability, scalability, developer productivity, and operational efficiency.
  • Drive platform adoption by building scalable internal tools, frameworks, and engineering best practices.
  • Manage technical debt, platform reliability, incident response, and service quality.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Product Engineering, Security, Operations, Data, and other technical teams to align platform capabilities with business needs.
  • Collaborate on platform roadmaps, engineering quality standards, and long-term technical initiatives.
  • Develop pragmatic solutions that support both immediate priorities and future platform evolution.

Qualifications

Required Experience

  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering or technical leadership roles.
  • 2+ years managing engineering managers in a manager-of-managers capacity.
  • Experience leading Platform Engineering, Infrastructure, Data, or Developer Productivity organizations.
  • Proven success developing engineering practices across multiple teams and organizations.
  • Strong architectural decision-making experience, including build-versus-buy evaluations.
  • Experience hiring, mentoring, and developing engineering leaders.
  • Excellent written communication and executive stakeholder management skills.
  • Regular use of AI and LLM-powered development tools to improve engineering productivity.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience leading infrastructure, data, developer platform, or AI platform organizations at scale.
  • Background building internal developer platforms with high organizational adoption.
  • Experience implementing AI-native engineering workflows across development teams.
  • Experience leading distributed, remote-first engineering organizations.
  • Strong network within the platform and infrastructure engineering community.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base Salary: $204,000–$238,000 (Most U.S. States)
  • Base Salary: $240,000–$280,000 (CA, WA, NY, NJ, CT)
  • Fully remote work environment
